Walter Stewart's Market to host Strawberry Festival on Saturday

Walter Stewart's Market, 229 Elm Street, will host its first Strawherry Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, rain or shine. There is no admission fee.

Connecticut strawberries from Pell Farms in Somers will take center stage, and Stewart's has pledged to donate $1 to the United Way of New Canaan for every quart sold.

Activities will include free sampling of strawberry shortcake throughout the day. Pongo the Clown will entertain with juggling, magic and balloon craft from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Stewart's will have the grill going with hamburgers and hot dogs. Fresh jams from Connecticut farmers and other strawberry delicacies will be available for purchase.

Visitors may enter a drawing for a variety of door prizes, including a Glider II foldable roller board scooter and passes to Great Adventure. Free copies of "Walter Stewart's Cookbook, vol.11," will be given away with each purchase while supplies last.
